Awesome day of racing today at New Year’s Head!
Our men’s first eight beat Newcastle’s first eight for the first time since 2018 and our second and third eights beat Newcastle’s respective boats too.
The women’s eight put out a really strong performance but annoyingly Tyne and Newcastle didn’t enter so we don’t get to rank ourselves against them this time. Regardless, they posted some great percentages and took wins in the eight and pair which bodes well for trials and BUCS Head next month.
Our men also took wins in the 2- and 1x by margins of 44 and 65 seconds respectively compared with Newcastle’s top pairs and singles.
An unreal weekend and spirits are very high within the squad. Now all we do is push for more!
Congratulations too to Sam Tuck for winning Coach of the Year. Fantastic to see what he’s doing with the programme at Surrey University.
