We are delighted to have named six new boats, purchased after an incredibly generous donation from alumnus, and 1997 DUBC President, Ben Thorpe. The boats were named at a ceremony on the Saturday of Henley Royal Regatta. All six boats are new Filippi pairs which will help DUBC athletes succeed at GB Trials, aiming to get as many people selected as possible and win medals for the GB Team.
The boats will be named Ben Thorpe, Claire Barker, Paul Hawkins, Steve Pemberton, Andy Gerber, and Eric Halladay. Eric Halladay was the beloved coach of DUBC for over 30 years, and the former five names his Presidents and Vice-Presidents in 1996 and 1997.
The boat club intends to make many more boat purchases in the coming years through a long-term and coordinated fundraising effort led by the students. Expect to see more of these announcements in the future!
