Tash Morrice wins Silver at U23 World Championships

Durham University’s Tash Morrice wins an epic Silver Medal in the Eight at the U23 World Championships.

From novice to the national stage - Tash’s success bears testament to what future Development Squad athletes can aspire to achieve, starting off as a novice 4 years ago. Tash has captained the Women’s Squad at DUBC for the past two years and her tenancy will without doubt have a lasting impact on the club.

After a long and particularly tough set of seat racing at Caversham, she was selected in the 4 seat of GB’s U23 eight racing to win in Varese.

The eight began by winning their heat in style, beating their closest opposition by 7 seconds to progress straight through to the A Final. In the other heat, USA won in a time just a second faster than GB and were also 7 seconds ahead of their closest rival, setting the stage for a great final.

In the final, USA stormed out to a half-length lead early on with GB holding second place over Germany. This continued, with the USA and GB inching away from the field ahead of a fierce battle for third. Tash and her crew bagged the silver medal, just over a length down on the USA and a length up on Germany.

This adds to a fantastic year for Tash, where she led the Women’s Squad to a Victor Ludorum win at BUCS Head, 3rd Place in the Victor Ludorum at BUCS Regatta (DUBC’s highest finish since 2015) and the squad made huge improvements under her leadership. Not only has she inspired the team to succeed but she has led from the front and enjoyed a great deal of personal success. This includes bringing in the most BUCS Points out of any other athlete in the boat club, winning a Gold Medal at BUCS Indoors, a Silver and Bronze at BUCS Head, two more Silvers at BUCS Regatta and reaching the semi-final in the Championship 2- at Henley Women’s Regatta.

The team are incredibly proud of Tash and she will be sorely missed but we look forward to following her rowing career as she graduates and moves on to a new chapter at Leander.

Sincerely,
