Directions by Road

From the A1 South follows the signs for Blaydon. There will be a right hand turn up a hill on the B6317 just before Ryton signposted Newburn. The club is on your left just before the bridge.

From the A1 North follow the signs for Newburn. Cross the bridge and turn right into our entrance directly opposite Newcastle University.

Race Format:

Saturday - Head race acting as a time trial: 2.5 Km course

Sunday - Regatta: 1000m four abreast racing

Divisions:

Entries will be accepted for Eights and Coxed fours at Championship, Intermediate and Beginner level.

Division 1 - Championship and Intermediate 4+, Beginner 8+

Division 2 - Championship and Intermediate 8+, Beginner 4+

Please refer to BUCS Rules and Regulations to ensure crew eligibility

Saturday

Division 1 – 10:30 AM    Division 2 – 1:30 PM

Sunday

Division 1 – 8:30 AM      Division 2 – 1:00 PM

The racing format will allow Eights to be easily ‘split up’ into coxed fours to allow for more racing over the weekend. I.e. Boat clubs can enter 8 athletes in an Eight and two coxed fours.

Entry Fee:

£12.00 per seat (coxes free) ((total for both days))

N.B. £4 discount per seat if entered in both 4+ and 8+ for both days (I.e. £10 per seat)

E.g. Athlete entered in 4+ and 8+ for both days - £20

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded to the winning crew of each category on the Sunday, provided there are more than three entries.

The University or College that wins the overall competition (decided through a points system, which will be published at the time of the draw) will win the ‘DUBC Winter Challenge Cup.’ Bias for point allocation will be given to Championship events, followed by Intermediate events, followed by Beginner events. Points awarded on Saturday for the head race will be weighted to half that of the points awarded on Sunday.

BUCS Endorsed

BUCS points will not be awarded.

Participants needn’t be members of British Rowing.

Accommodation

If necessary, accommodation should be organised by competing boat clubs.

We would recommend: Durham Travelodge or Washington A1(M) Travelodge

Social

DUBC will host a Ceilidh in Durham on the Saturday evening. More details will be announced nearer the time.
