Newsletter 12/10/2015

Welcome to the DUBC newsletter section, these will be circulated to all parents via email so apologies if you are reading this for the second time. My name is Edward Gleadowe, I am a fourth year Engineering student and this years club president, I started with the club in my first year when I joined the Learn to Row programme and have been hooked ever since. Both myself and some guest writers from the club, hope to be in touch throughout this year keeping you updated on everything our athletes have achieved through the club, our community programmes and beyond. We will be sending out a newsletter every two weeks covering the club targets and training, celebrating success of our crews and individuals and inviting you all to be involved at our events whenever you can.

On the coaching side we have some new faces as well. After Success at Women’s Henley Regatta and EUSA Cameron Kennedy has been accepted as head coach of Bristol University rowing club, while men’s coach Don LeClair has returned to Canada to be closer to his wife in Ontario. Taking Don’s place will be Laura Richardson, joining us after coaching at Leeds and for the GB Start programme in Yorkshire she is a fully qualified physiotherapist and has already made good progress taking control of the group and ensuring a good base level of body awareness and injury prevention amongst the athletes. The women’s coach position has been filled but I unfortunately am not allowed to disclose their identity until the hiring process is complete so look out for the details in two weeks time.

As promised we have the first of our events for people to attend coming up in November. With the return of the biennial Lumiere from the 12th to the 15th we hope some of you will be tempted to join us in Durham for the festival, we will be opening the redecorated Ergo gallery and offering tea and cakes on the Saturday as a chance to meet the new coaches and get to know others with links to the programme. If any of you will be attending please drop me an email so we can plan for numbers.
