In an exciting three days of racing, DUBC’s 4+ of Rosie Minikin, Flo Cox, Adam Beake (cox), Jenni Stephenson, Rachel Martin and Tristan Maygothling (coach) came away from HWR with a very well deserved win. This crew was our top DUBC crew entered into Intermediate Academic Coxed Fours. The 4+ beat Kingston University ‘easily,’ the Royal Vetinary College BC ‘easily,’ Osiris by a canvas and in the final beat Kings College London by one length. Huge congratulations to the whole crew.
Also racing at Henley, we had some of our top athletes racing in composite crews. Our top female athlete – Sarah Cowburn – raced in her GB U23 Double with Rachel Gamble-Flint of Leander, narrowly missing out to the national Irish squad double. Jo Fitzsimmons in a Durham, Mersey, Tees and Marlow composite beat Guildford ‘easily’ in the semi-final before just losing out to another composite by an agonising canvas in the final. Char Jackson coxed the GB U23 8, beating American entries of Princeton and Brown universities in the quarter and semi-finals. The final against Britain’s European 8 was always going to be a tough race with the U23s just losing by a third of a length in what was a very tight race.
HRR now fast approaches and Durham’s crews are training hard on the Henley stretch in readiness for kick-off on Wednesday 29th June.
