Background:

Franz began rowing as a J14 at the King’s School, Chester, but soon turned to coxing as the rest of the squad began to grow.He coxedthe School 1st VIII from J16 through to J18 and represented GB at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in his Lower 6th and then coxed the GB VIII to a silver at the Junior World Championships in 2009. He took a year out to coach the Freshman Squad, helping them to a Temple qualification for the first time since Steve Rowbotham’s VIII. In 2011 he returned to coxing and coxed the Men’s 1st VIII through HORR to BUCS and then the PA 4+ through Henley. At school he was the Vice-Captain of Boats and hopes to bring this, along with his coaching experience, into the running of the Boat Club for the coming year.

Background: Francis rowed at Hampton School from the age of 14 until his Upper Sixth, when he was Captain of Boats, a role he hope will help him with the various Vice-President tasks. He was in the 1st VIII as a J16 until his final year, and represented England at Home Countries in 2007 in his first year in Hampton’s senior squad and GB at Coupe de la Jeunesse in his Upper Sixth, winning gold and silver in the 4-. On arrival at Durham, he decided to take a year off the sport but this only fuelled his enthusiasm for when he rejoined in second year. Having made the Henley PA 4+ 2011, he hopes to bring his experience as Captain of Hampton and his passion to his role on the committee in this important Olympic year.

Women’s Captain: Rachel Martin

Background: Rachel has a huge passion for rowing and DUBC, and is a valuable and popular member of our women’s squad. She started rowing aged 13 at Sir William Perkins’s School, and has continued to row successfully for DUBC. Rachel was in the University Pennant winning WeHORR crew in 2009, and won at Henley Women’s Regatta this year in the Intermediate 4+. She leads by example, and her incredible kindness, sense of fun and level head will make her a great Women’s Captain.

Background: Whilst at school Lewis coxed for three years and rowed for one. Lewis has just completed his first year in combined social sciences at Collingwood College. Throughout his Freshman year he rowed and sculled as a lightweight, something that he hopes to continue into his second and third years. He is now  secretary to Durham University Boat Club, a similar role to that which he undertook whilst at school.

Background: After coaching and rowing at school in Chester, Chris has an in depth understanding of the everyday workings of a boat club. He hopes to add to this as this years treasurer of the boat club. He is going into his second year at Durham and wishes to be part of an exec that builds on the success of DUBC in previous years.
