At Durham, the pride of our alumni is evidenced by the fact that so many of the boats in our fleet are named after generous alumni who have helped with their purchase; for which we are still greatly thankful for.
However there are a fair few, that we have either been able to purchase ourselves through our own fundraising or there donors have never been recognised. We would like to put this right and have your names on as many of our boats as possible.
The main focus of fundraising this year is for the purchase of a new Women’s VIII, to replace “Martin”. As with “Martin”, we will be looking to name the boat too. If you wish to have your name and contribution remembered forever on any of our boats, please send the President an email on thepresident@dubc.co.uk. From here we can discuss which boat you would like named, and how much you would be willing to donate to the club to do so!
Currently our unnamed boats include:
- 2011 Men’s Hudson 1st VIII
- 2006 Men’s Filippi 2nd VIII
- 2006 Men’s Filippi Racing Coxed IV
- 2006 Women’s Filippi Racing Coxless IV
All of these boats are still in pristine, racing condition, but could do with a name emblazoned on their bow’s. If you wish to help both our fundraising, but also have that help remembered for ever, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
An alternative option, if you would like to a crew to be remembered for what it did for the club in its time, for example “Crew of 68-69“, please contact your crew mates, and the President and we shall see what we can arrange.
Whenever a boat is named, we shall endeavor to have a ceremony celebrating it, at one of our many events through the year. The two key events for this would be the Alumni Races in early January and the Henley Drinks in early July, whichever is the more convenient for you to attend.
